An automaton to carry salt down the length of the dining table.

"Throwing salt over your left shoulder keeps the devil at bay."
Once a valuable commodity, salt is now virtually worthless. This is a machine that dispenses a long, wasteful line of salt along the table, allowing diners to take a pinch at will to season their food. To counter the bad luck generated by spilling so much salt, the dispenser periodically throws a scoop of salt over its shoulder. Machines should be wary of the devil too.
